2024 NOTE FROM THE CEO

Another fast and furious year has come and gone, and it is time to turn our focus to the New Year.  Once again it has been an action-packed year here at your Credit Union and we expect 2024 to be no different.  But before we begin talking about what’s coming this year, let’s take a moment to reflect on all of the happenings of last year.

2023 presented so many opportunities and challenges for ACFCU.  In addition to launching great new services like Alcoa Auto Finder, we opened our first new branch located within our newly expanded field of membership.  In June, we opened a micro-branch at 519 South Rock Street in Sheridan.  We added two new staff members, Kelly Freudensprung as our Branch Manager and Morgan Menard as our Consumer Lender to service all of your lending needs and moved Mondi Elrod from our Benton location to help you with all of your account and membership opening needs.  We are thrilled with the reception we have received thus far and look forward to serving the folks in Sheridan and Grant County for years to come.

To support our growing credit union family, we added staff to better prepare us for the demands associated with supporting a larger member base and maintain the level of service that is our standard.  In 2023 we added several new associates that we think very highly of in all parts of the organization.  In our lending area, we added Matt Jones as our Mortgage Lender, Robert Chumbley as a Consumer Lender in our Benton location, Glenda Nielsen as our Cards Specialist, and Shelby Owings and Drew Thompson as Tellers.  All of our new folks bring great levels of experience, and many have strong ties to our community. As an example, Matt Jones grew up in Benton and is a 2003 graduate of Benton High School and a 2007 graduate of Ouachita Baptist University.

So, what awaits us in 2024?  Once again there are many things we are working on to improve the overall experience and level of service for our members and things that you should consider to enhance your financial situation for 2024.  First thing to consider is taking advantage of savings rates before they start dropping.  In the last year or so deposit rates have been higher than they have been in at least a decade.  All indications are that rates will start falling sharply this year.  If you have money set aside, I suggest that you take a look at a certificate of deposit with us.  As a current member, if we don’t have the highest rate in town on CDs we will honor that rate if you open a new CD with us.  Another opportunity to earn more is our upgraded Kasasa checking accounts.  The new tier we have added to this already fantastic account will allow you to earn up to 6% so I encourage you to check it out.

In 2024 we are also undertaking a couple of new projects to enhance our member experience.  In the first quarter we will begin offering instant issue debit cards.  Whether you are opening a new account or needing to replace a lost or damaged debit card, we will be able to issue you a new card from our Benton office and you can leave with a brand new and active debit card.  This will certainly enhance our services to you and provide a better overall experience.

So, thank you, thank you, thank you to all of our members.  Whether you have been with us for many years or are relatively new, we appreciate each and every one of you.  You are why we are here and why we do what we do.  I encourage you all to reach out to me directly if ever you feel that we have not lived up to our promise of unmatched member service.  Please call me at 501-315-5626 or email me at steve.brown@alcoacfcu.org.

Thank you again and Happy New Year!

Steve Brown, President & CEO
